What is IEA’s mission?The Interdisciplinary Environmental Association is committed to fostering an inclusive space for individuals and groups that are conducting research and contributing knowledge to topics in the growing field of environmental science and interdisciplinary studies. We are a cross-country and cross-discipline association focused on providing a platform that is scholarly, inclusive, and transparent and that supports individuals in academia and established practitioners through our annual conference, the International Interdisciplinary Conference on the Environment, IEA membership, and student honor society Kappa Alpha Omicron.

How do I register for the IICE?To register for the International Interdisciplinary Conference on the Environment, IICE, click on ‘Register for the Conference’ found at the top of the page. Once on the registration page, follow the instructions by registering your presentation under the appropriate titles and paying the corresponding fee.

How can I become a member?The Interdisciplinary Environmental Association welcomes scholars, researchers, students, practitioners, activists, IPOC, active citizens, and anyone who is interested and has a stake in contributing to understanding today’s prevalent planetary and human threats caused by unprecedented global change. To become a member, fill out the membership form and pay the membership fee found under ‘Membership’ at the top of the page.

What types of conferences does the Interdisciplinary Environmental Association host?The Interdisciplinary Environmental Association, IEA, is committed to designing academic conferences with a global reach to connect scholars, scientists, researchers, students, activists, and active citizens who are interested in learning about ongoing scientific and social science research and contributing knowledge of all forms to understanding and seeking actions towards today’s prevalent planetary and human challenges. Annually, the IEA develops a theme based on the ongoing research of our members, conference community, and host institution that is relevant and that will contribute to vibrant discussions and collaborations during and after the conference. Since 2020, the IICE has been virtual. Hybrid opportunities can be offered at partnered institutions and provide a space for conference attendees to meet in person and engage in presentations, workshops, and discussions. Participating schools, NGOs, and civil societies are encouraged to host an in-person space for the IICE. Can I propose a topic or speaker for an upcoming conference?Yes! Upon submitting your abstract for presentation at the IICE, you will be asked to indicate what session your research falls under or invited to create your session. Any suggestions for a keynote speaker or ways to elevate the conference experience can be made when submitting or abstract or in a separate email to Admin@ieaonline.org

What is the student honors society, and how can I join?Kappa Alpha Omicron, KAO, is the Interdisciplinary Environmental Association, IEA student honor society. The purpose of KAO is to provide an inclusive space for undergraduate students in the fields of environmental science and interdisciplinary studies and their supporting faculty at colleges and universities both in the United States and abroad access to diverse networks of scientists, researchers, professionals, and practitioners across the globe that can support students in their academic pursuits. This is done through knowledge coordination, mentorship, and professional development. KAO chapters maintain a base at their college or university and are involved in various forms of engagement that meet the needs of their campus or community. Additionally, KAO chapters participate in the International Interdisciplinary Conference on the Environment, IICE, and attend networking events hosted by the IEA throughout the year. Faculty members at established colleges and universities can apply to establish a KAO chapter at their school by submitting the application found on the ‘Kappa Alpha Omicron’ webpage.

What scholarships or grants available for IEA members or IICE attendees?Students who present research at the International Interdisciplinary Conference on the Environment are eligible to participate in a Best Student Presentation Award with a chance to win $500.00. Members of the Interdisciplinary Environmental Association, persons seeking membership, and non-members who need financial assistance in participating at the conference can write an email to admin@ieaonline.org explaining their situation and expressing how financial assistance will support their academic or professional goals for attending the conference.

How can I get involved as a volunteer or contributor?Are you interested in volunteering for the Interdisciplinary Environmental Association or contributing your space, skills, or expertise to our team? The IEA welcomes diverse forms of involvement from our community which include hosting a hybrid space for the IICE, writing dynamic articles, acting as a social media advisor, supporting our website, and contributing to the promotion of the conference. We also work with universities to offer college credit for internships! If you are a student looking for a unique internship experience, please email Admin@ieaonline.org

How do I access past conference materials or recordings?Since 2020, all International Interdisciplinary Conferences on the Environment have been held online using the online conference platform Hopin. Attendees must make a Hopin account which gives access to the online event including all recorded material such as keynotes, presentations, and workshops. The IEA keeps the recorded material available on Hopin for attendees to revisit during the conference and up to 30 days after the conference. The IEA can download presentations from Hopin and share them with attendees upon request and subject to approval from the presenter/speaker. All past conference programs can be viewed on the webpage ‘Conference’.

How can I support the IEA or donate?The Interdisciplinary Environmental Association, IEA, is a certified 501c3 Nonprofit. We accept donations from individuals and groups that go directly toward funding our association’s mission. For instance, donations support conference-related fees such as paying honorariums and workshop hosts, financial assistance to attendees who cannot afford the registration fee and awarding Best Student Presentation at the conference. In addition, there are sponsorship tiers for organizations and businesses who are seeking involvement at the conference and can contribute financially to it’s mission.
